Artist's Comments

This is the rought cut ammolite that followed me home from the annual Lapidary Society's rock and gem show. The middle piece is beautiful and spans the whole colour spectrum. I gave it to a friend to babysit. It's going to be our friendship rock. I'm hoping to divide it and finish it into something similar for both of us a la Bobsy Twins.

Putting a spoiler on a dorky hatchback dosn't make it a sport's car any more than putting spandex on a fat guy makes him a vaulter.

Did you end up doing anything with these? They are beautiful when the polishing of it is finished.

Not yet. I'm scared to. I want to have more practice, to arrive at some sort of "zone" where I feel some control. Also the turquoise I was trying to cab kept crumbling when did stupid things like trying to pick, rather than melt off the dop wax. I'm such a newb!

hehe thats awesome though that you have the materials to actually do lapidary! Too bad we don't live closer. I have some equipment. My aunt has the cutting machine, and I have the rest of the lapidary work. I'm not sure how to get it to run though, but I'm in no rush to learn. I have a shitload of slabs of jasper stuff and onyx. That would give you more then enough practice hehe. So, it feels like I have a museum of rocks in the house, cause some are just so pretty, it's sitting on my desk for paperweight collection! lol.
